Environmental and Conservation Work

Timber Logging

Heavy horses were the only motive power on farms throughout the countryside for hundreds of years and they played an important part in shaping and caring for the landscape.

Our Horkesley Park Suffolk Punches are pure power and when harnessed for a particular job they can often work in places unsuitable or inaccessible for tractors and other wheeled vehicles.  Legislation and good practices relating to environmentally sensitive areas and sites of special scientific interest are opening up ever increasing roles for traditional horse power, such as timber logging and extraction.

We are pleased to supply the Horkesley Park Suffolk Punches for timber logging and extraction.  Our horses are happy to work alongside foresters when they are felling the timber and are comfortable to be near open fires and smoke.

The Suffolk Punches cause very little environmental damage when extracting and hauling the timber which is very good for the green policies and credentials of any organisation or individual commissioning us to undertake the work.

As the Suffolk Horse is a critically endangered breed and any working purpose for the Suffolk Punches often appeals to the media to provide coverage, we are always delighted to discuss ideas and proposals anyone may have to enable and develop such promotion.
